Syria’s Suwayda Declares Ceasefire
According to Anas Khattab, "After days of bloodshed in Suwayda, internal security forces managed to calm the situation following their deployment in the northern and western areas of the province," as conveyed by a state news agency.
He highlighted that the ceasefire within the city was the initial step in facilitating the exchange of prisoners and restoring stability across Suwayda.
Earlier, the news agency reported that the security forces had been stationed along the province's borders to enforce the ceasefire and ensure civilian protection.
US Special Envoy to Syria, Tom Barrack, confirmed the development on X, stating, "As of 17:00 (1400 GMT) Damascus time, all parties have navigated to a pause and cessation of hostilities."
He added that "Escalating hostilities can only be contained with an agreement to pause violence, protect the innocent, allow humanitarian access, and step back from danger."
Barrack further emphasized that "The next foundation stone on a path to inclusion, and lasting de-escalation, is a complete exchange of hostages and detainees, the logistics of which are in process."
