Fire Breaks Out Near Syria’s Presidential Palace
The fire, which appeared sudden and unexplained at first, caused immediate concern due to the palace’s high-security profile and symbolic prominence. However, state-run media quickly clarified that the flames erupted in a kitchen located within one of the palace’s surrounding gardens—not inside the palace structure itself.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene, and media reported that civil defense teams were actively working to bring the fire under control.
A correspondent stationed nearby confirmed witnessing thick smoke billowing across the capital’s skyline, with visibility severely reduced in Mazzeh and other surrounding areas. The source of the fire has not yet been officially identified, and authorities have not commented on whether foul play is suspected.
The al-Shaab Palace, a key presidential complex, is situated atop one of Damascus's highest elevations, making the sight of smoke rising from the area visible for miles—further heightening alarm among residents and observers.
